FAQ
What is a Brazilian bikini wax?
A traditional Brazilian bikini wax removes the hair from the entire pubic region, including the labia and inner buttock area. Some people choose to leave a landing strip, or narrow V-strip, on the pubic bone, while others go completely bare.
How is the hair removed?
Using a wooden stick, a technician spreads warm wax over a small, quarter-sized area. Cloth strips are then placed over the wax, rubbed lightly, and quickly pulled off. This process is repeated over the entire region, until no hair remains. In some cases, the technician will complete the procedure by tweezing stray hairs.
Is it painful?
While this area is sensitive, the right timing and skin preparation can ease the discomfort significantly. Women usually find waxing most comfortable during the 2 to 10 days after their period ends. In addition, trimming the hair to a shorter length (about 1/4") and taking an ibuprofen about 1/2 an hour prior to the appointment, will help reduce tenderness. We also recommend avoiding salt and drinking plenty of water in the week leading up to the appointment, and exfoliating the area the day of the procedure. Finally, it's best not to wait longer than 4 to 6 weeks between appointments. The more you wax, the easier it gets.
How long does the process take?
Typically, the Brazilian takes about 1/2 an hour to complete. For the quickest, most comfortable, and safest experience, have a knowledgeable, well-trained technician perform the procedure.
How long does it last?
Depending on how fast your hair grows, you'll stay incredibly soft and smooth anywhere from 10 days to three weeks.
How should I care for the area afterwards?
To prevent ingrown hairs, we recommend exfoliating the area twice weekly, applying moisturizer twice daily and "going commando" (i.e. skipping the underwear) while sleeping.
What if I get an ingrown hair?
While exfoliating and moisturizing should help you avoid this problem, ingrown hairs do occasionally occur. When they do, the hair should be gently extracted either by yourself, a trusted friend, or one of our technicians. Follow up with a liberal application of Vitamin E oil (available in capsule form at any drugstore) to help promote healing.
Isn't the hair there for a reason?
The most popular theory seems to be that humans once needed the hair for protection against the elements. However, now that most people wear clothing on a regular basis, the experts agree pubic hair has become unnecessary. Many of our clients also find it more hygienic to go bare, as it reduces the absorption of sweat.
